Challenges in the Payments Space

Early on, Bhanzu recognized that collecting payments was only part of the equation. To truly earn the trust of students and parents, the company needed to ensure a seamless experience from the very start. As they expanded from the Indian subcontinent to regions like ANZ, GCC, and eventually the US and UK, managing the volume and pace of sales presented new challenges. The initial payment process was rigorous and required manual verification by the finance team, causing onboarding delays of up to three days. This lag left new students waiting and occasionally led to increased chargebacks, especially as the student base grew internationally.

Operating across peak times, like the start of the academic year in March-April, and slower periods, like October, highlighted the need for a more flexible, efficient system. Bhanzu needed a scalable payment solution that could not only keep up with global demand but also offer an onboarding experience that reassured students from day one.

Solving the Equation

To keep up with the demands of their rapidly growing student base, Bhanzu integrated Razorpay’s robust API directly into their system. With this setup, they could seamlessly initiate payments by generating customized Razorpay links directly from their sales tool. This efficient integration not only streamlined the payment process but also ensured students gained instant access to their dashboard, reinforcing trust right from the start.

In an effort to maximize success rates and optimize performance, Bhanzu designed a payment routing system that prioritizes gateways based on success rates, and Razorpay emerged as the best-performing payment solution provider. When occasional payment issues surfaced, Razorpay’s team promptly addressed and resolved them, offering them a reliable partner that ensured minimal disruption and high responsiveness to their needs.
